We’ll be uploading our pages as we go and tweeting with the hashtag #24hcm. Follow our progress and send us your encouragement!
When we first started talking about the idea of doing a 24h comic at the Lakes festival, we wanted to do something differently. The original challenge set out by Scott McCloud was to do everything (story, art, lettering, colour etc.) all within the space of 24 hours. I’ve done a few 24 hour comics that work within these parameters, but in the spirit of doing something different with the 24h comic as a challenge, we’ve encouraged the artists do as much or as little prep work as they want, leaving just (JUST! ha ha ha) the final artwork to complete on the day.
Our aim is to produce some great stories. We will be spending the following day working with Absolute Printing in Kendal to print limited edition copies of the books which will be available to buy at the festival the following day. I’m not sure anyone has gone straight from event to print this quickly before. No pressure!
Here’s a quick look at some of my planning. I’ve had the chance to see some of the other artist’s planning and prep and hooo boy are you all in for a series of genuine delights. It’s going to be great!
