I spent the last week in Angouleme for teaching, the festival, the 24h de la bande dessinee and a lot of visits to universities and studios.
Claire Fouquet, who I was staying with, and myself found that it was far more fun to leave short comic strips for each other in the morning than scribbled notes. Here is a selection of some of those strips. They aren’t likely to make much sense as they have a lot of in-jokes and the such, but I thought I’d share them anyway! This is a project that we may continue as a blog somewhere, so keep your eyes peeled!
The cast of characters are; Claire Fouquet, Myself, Claire’s boyfriend Vittorio and Italian Illustrator Eva Montanari.

Hello Dan
Love those ‘note’ comics. What a great idea for a stay at Angouleme. And such nice large scans.
Some of the funniest bits in the magazine ‘Lapin’ (from l’Association) were also diary strips from Angouleme. I’m thinking in particular of an observation by Nicolas Mahler on Finnish drinking habits and one by JC Menu about sharing a room.
Actually it would be neat to have a special website just for little festival diary comics by all sorts of cartoonists. Really the best way to describe comic festivals.
Am in the process of putting together a photo-page of last year’s Comica Comiket events, including some snaps of you.
Oh, about the weather: I was in Angouleme in 2006, and it looked like this

On Monday, when everyone (except me) had cleared out, so had the weather:

(isn’t it a pretty town?)

It’s ace, I love Angouleme! A site of cartoonists’s diaries about comics events is a really neat idea, I’d certainly submit something for that!
